Visiting Magnolia Silos

Chip and Joanna, right? RIGHT?! We just love ‘em! So I had to make a trip to Waco, and who doesn’t want to visit Texas?! Turns out, me. I’m not a humidity girl and Waco is quite humid! But I mean the view! Gorgeous! Blue sky and fields and farmland as far as the eye can see!  If you’ve researched The Silos at all, you know that everyone’s experience greatly differs! I went on this trip at the end of August 2021. I figured I really only needed one day to explore and enjoy The Silos. Me, being a true crime junkie, I also had to stop at the Branch Davidian compound at Mount Caramel and look around & that was really neat for me personally.  I also went and saw the assignation location of John F. Kennedy and the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

We ended up using a Saturday to visit The Silos, because they’re not open on Sunday. I knew a weekend day would be busier, but I had hoped since it was Texas, and it was the end of August that a lot of people would be busy with back-to-school stuff as well as just fairly hot weather. And I was right! We started at 7am when Magnolia Press opened so we could get some iced coffee and walk around before it got too hot. We didn’t have any lines or any waiting at all but things did get busy once 9am rolled around and all of the little shops opened up. So, like I said, it wasn’t busy enough to form lines like I have seen other people experience but it was busy enough that walking around inside of the little shops and buildings was a tad uncomfortable and it felt like you weren’t moving fast or slow enough and you were always in someone’s way. But it was so special seeing this stuff in person after being a fan for so long! No regrets! We met so many nice and friendly people and I think that was the best part!

For my recommendations, I would recommend going as early as Magnolia Press, the coffee shop, opens. Depending on the day of the week the rest of the block should be open to walk around although the shops will not be open or unlocked at that time. It is an excellent opportunity to take photos and just walk around with coffee and enjoy what Chip and Joanna have put together before it gets busier.   The first hour after Magnolia Press opened was probably my favorite time of the day!

If you had the choice, I would probably choose a weekday for more freedom and relaxation exploring. But on the Saturday that I went, it was pretty nice. In my research I saw some people experience wrap around lines and hour long waits to get in Silos Baking Co. As well as the Magnolia warehouse.  All of the buildings are air conditioned, fresh and clean and obviously gorgeous. Life is short and you have to cling to the silly little things that make you happy and going to explore The Silos was that for me!
